AI Engineer – Private Equity

We are partnering with a leading middle-market private equity firm that is building one of the most advanced internal Data Science & AI capabilities in the sector.

Having already established its core AI platform and data infrastructure, the firm is now moving decisively from experimentation into production. We are seeking a hands-on AI Engineer to act as a forward-deployed builder, taking promising AI ideas, workflows and prototypes and turning them into reliable, scalable solutions used across the firm.

This is a unique opportunity to join a private equity firm significantly ahead of the market in how it is leveraging Data Science & AI across investment processes, portfolio monitoring and internal operations.

The Role

You will own the technical delivery of AI and agentic solutions from initial concept through to production deployment and ongoing maintenance.

Working closely with internal AI transformation leads and business stakeholders, you will translate use cases and early prototypes into robust technical solutions, defining the architecture, integrating relevant data, building and deploying applications, and ensuring they remain reliable after launch.

You will:

• Build and deploy production-grade AI applications and agentic workflows.
• Turn early prototypes and business-led AI concepts into scalable, reliable solutions.
• Work directly with business stakeholders to translate ambiguous problems into technical builds.
• Design solutions using LLMs, RAG, embeddings and agentic architectures.
• Apply traditional machine learning where supervised or unsupervised approaches are more appropriate.
• Build integrations across modern data, CRM and enterprise technology platforms.
• Establish monitoring, evaluation and maintenance processes for production AI systems.
• Help shape the firm’s approach to AI architecture, tooling, governance and build-versus-buy decisions.
• Partner with IT and compliance to ensure solutions meet appropriate security and governance standards.

Experience:

• Proven experience building and shipping production AI applications.
• Strong hands-on experience with LLMs, RAG, embeddings and agentic AI.
• Solid machine learning and data science foundations.
• Strong Python and software engineering capabilities.
• Experience designing APIs and deploying applications in cloud environments.
• An understanding of monitoring and observability for production AI systems.
• The ability to work directly with non-technical stakeholders and translate business problems into solutions.
• A willingness to challenge requirements where data, scope or technical feasibility does not stack up.

Experience as a Forward Deployed Engineer, Data Scientist, technical consultant or customer-facing AI engineer would be particularly relevant. Exposure to private equity, financial services or another regulated environment would also be advantageous.
